The whole server

Minecraft keeps a statistics file for every player: every block broken and placed, every item crafted, every mob killed and every mob that killed them, and every centimetre travelled on foot, by boat, by minecart, on horseback and — for fifty-four people — on a pig. TWiTcraft's files survived for the final map. Added together, they look like this.

Statistics were reset when the world reset in January 2014, so these cover the final year only. The 2013 snapshots have no statistics files. Names link to what each player had on them when the server stopped.

Record holders

New players, month by month

The server started stamping a first-join date on April 7, 2012, when it moved to Bukkit. Every player file since then carries one — so this is the server's pulse: how many new people showed up each month, right through to the last thirty-five in January 2015.

The two grey months are inflated: April 2012 also counts everyone who already played and simply logged in after tracking began, and January 2014 counts returning players after the world reset. November and December 2013 sit between the two file sets and are blank, not empty. The drop from 314 new players in August 2014 to 106 in September is the decline the history page describes.

From the 2013 files

The 2013 snapshot predates the statistics files, but each player file still records the in-game score (the number on the death screen, which resets when you die), the experience level, and whatever the player was doing at the moment they last logged out.

Haste and Speed on 162 and 138 players are the spawn beacons — people logged off in the lobby with the buffs still ticking.

The founding cohort

Six hundred and eighty-seven accounts were already here when the clock started in April 2012 — that's the founding cohort, and the earliest stamps on April 7 belong to LeonimuZ, nickflame20, t2t2t, Cheeetozz, AcidPants, OMGchad. The first brand-new players after that: The_Swagger 2012-04-09, WizardCM 2012-04-09, Bubblesses 2012-04-09, KyRonin 2012-04-09, GigAtom 2012-04-09, DaddyPher 2012-04-09.
